Peder Mørk Mønsted (1859-1941) was a Danish painter using a realistic style of working, best known for his landscape paintings. He was the son of a well-to-do ship builder and studied art at a local school and then at the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. At the age of 24 he travelled to Capri and Rome, then took up work for an established studio in Paris. He travelled widely in his 30s, to Algeria, Greece, Egypt and Spain, producing numerous sketches that became oil paintings. However most of his energies were given to paintings of Scandinavia and these were particularly popular in Germany. His work is now mainly in private collections.
